Local Priorities Cycle Theft Message |
I wanted to provide you with an update regarding cycle theft, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.
Putney Embankment has recently attracted thieves to the location to steal high value bicycles from both premises and on the street near the river. These suspects usually arrive on another stolen bicycle which is sometimes swapped for the stolen one or they arrive on a high powered electric bike and lift the stolen bike onto the electric one and ride off fast. A bike was recently stolen from near the river and traced via its 'air tag' to Bulgaria later that day. With some bikes worth £18000 or more it is crucial to lock your bike whenever you leave it, however many owners of expensive carbon fibre bikes don't want to carry any excess weight and fail to lock their bikes while sitting in cafes or just use a cable lock which can easily be cut. If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.met.police.uk/, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.
